Valley's End: An Asymmetric Keepsake Game
A downloadable game
Valley's End is a strange and simple keepsake board-game/RPG combo for two players, where one player takes on the role of a city developer trying to expand their town, and the other plays as a ferret. It features simple original mechanics, a map (that you're supposed to draw all over), and sparse guidelines. It's deceptively easy. Play it however you like.
I made this game because of my love for animals and my anger at their mistreatment due to human expansion. I grew up in what is now known as Bozeman, Montana, where the game is set.
The black-footed ferret is nearly extinct, and there are no known populations remaining in Montana. There used to be many ferrets.
This game is about the ancestral lands of the Apsáalooke [ap-saw-loo-kay], Tséstho’e [sto-ey], and Séliš [SAY-lish] Peoples, and it was created on traditional land of the Duwamish (doo·WAA·muhsh) People–it honors with gratitude these Peoples and their land. Players are encouraged to do the same, and to learn about the ancestral Peoples of their own lands.
